AA celebrates 50 years in India

International Convention held in Mangalore

The first International AA convention in India took place January 24-27, in Mangalore, Karnataka. More than 1,500 attended, including General Service Board trustee-at-large Jo-Anne L., GSB Class A (non-alcoholic) chair, Leonard Blumenthal, and delegates from around the world.

Jo-Anne participated in a variety of AA functions in Mangalore and other cities. Out of a population of 1.2 billion in India, there are 15,000 in AA. "Hopefully, our trip there will help to kickstart more awareness, especially among women," she said. The convention was also a final celebration of the 50th anniversary of AA in India in 2008.
