In A Dry Spell

One woman's answer to complacency

I was at a meeting tonight and the speaker was talking about her experience of hitting a wall in AA and feeling that the spark was gone. After the first couple of years, the pink cloud had started to fade and grow a little colorless. The same old AA stories began to get annoying.

Maybe everyone doesn't experience this AA desert, but I have, so I could appreciate what the speaker was talking about. It also brought to mind the times in my own recovery when I have had to do the "do things" until my recovery began to take on a little color and vibrancy again. Generally, my program is different, fuller, richer--and the gratitude deeper--just for having had the emotional dry spell.
