Love and change in an AA group

I went to a funeral yesterday. Most of my AA friends were there to grieve with me and to take time to think about the meaning of sponsorship in AA.

A friend, sober for three years, had died, bravely and well, but too young. Bobby was a wonderful, honest man, a working man who had such skill as a craftsman, drunk or sober, that everyone wanted to hire him. He was someone so obviously bright, that I can't help but wonder what his life might have been like if he had been educated in a way commensurate with his ability.
