Three Years Sober and Free

I HAVE BEEN reading the Grapevine for four years and enjoying every article I've read, so I feel it's about time I sent in my comments and appreciation.

My first communication with AA was in an institution in Florida in 1965, at the age of twenty. At the time, I hadn't hit bottom, and I wasn't willing to go to any length for a different way of life. Within an hour after release, I was intoxicated and shoplifting. The freedom was short-lived. In twenty-one days, I was sentenced to six months for car theft in San Jose, Calif. This alone should have given me some sign.
