From Leader to Learner

As I walked up the stairs to the county jail, I quietly prayed, "Lord, I'm powerless over what will happen tonight and I'm frightened. I'm pretty sure that you want me to be here; please show me what to do. I cast my fears on you."

By the grace of God, I was there as an AA volunteer not as an inmate. I was with another member of AA, whom I'll call Frank. For some time Frank had been carrying the responsibility for leading a weekly men's meeting in jail. He had been circulating a plea for help. My recovery had been faltering recently; I was badly needing to do some kind of additional service work.
