A GSO Staff Member Talks About How AA Carries the Message to Inmates

There are more than 1,203,000 adults in North American correctional institutions. And if the respondents to an AA questionnaire sent to correctional facilities administrators are correct, 50 percent of them were probably sentenced for crimes in which alcohol abuse was an important factor. Clearly, AA has its work cut out for it. But it is making heartening strides. At present, there are 2,500 registered AA groups in prisons and other correctional facilities (plus an unknown number of unregistered groups); about 65,000 inmates are in the Fellowship.
