Alcoholics may suffer delirium tremens because continual use of alcohol has suppressed their tendency to dream, a scientist has said.
Recent studies suggest strongly that this alcohol-induced loss of dreams is at the base of the alcoholic's powerful hallucinations, said Dr. Roy M. Whitman, associate professor of psychiatry in the School of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati.
