The American Review of Respiratory Diseases reports that in the nation's first full-scale survey it was discovered that 22 percent of all hospitalized tuberculosis patients were also alcoholic.
The problem of the hospitalized tuberculous alcoholic "has been of considerable interest since the early 1950's," a team of researchers at the University of Washington in Seattle points out.
Dr. Robert J. Rhodes and his co-workers sent questionnaires to all hospitals and sanitoria having more than 20 beds.
