Killers on City Streets

An article in the New York Times on the hazards of slum life included statistics that inspired an anonymous reader to do a sharp-eyed bit of analysis. He sends the results along to the GV, commenting that the article "brought home to me the magnitude of the alcoholism problem. In justifying a statement that residents of three particularly 'unhealthy' streets have less than a 20-to-1 chance of dying a natural death, statistics were produced regarding 37 deaths investigated by the medical examiner's office between January 1 and August 10, 1969, on those three streets."
