Call It ALCOHOLISM!
Writing in the New England Journal of Medicine, Emil Rothstein, MD, takes issue with three colleagues who feel that the term "alcoholism" retards recovers:
I note with disagreement the suggestion in the Journal by Drs. Leone. Coe, and McElhaney that the euphemism "C2 disease" be substituted for alcoholism. The analogy of "Hansen's disease" for leprosy is offered.
