This department of the August 1968 Grapevine printed a physician's report on the first months of the Manhattan Bowery Project, started on November 27, 1967. The following excerpts indicate the status of the project early in 1970 and describe the rehabilitative process, which now starts with a stay of about five days in a drying-out ward set up at the Men's Shelter, on East Third Street in New York City.
