According to the first major survey of drinking habits in Australia, it looks as if the city of Sydney boasts the world's hardest drinkers.

A survey made by Professor S. Encel of the University of New South Wales, recently reported in the Medical Journal of Australia, reveals that all classes of society in Sydney accept heavy drinking as normal for adults. Four out of five, including women, drink regularly. At least half the men imbibe three or more drinks almost every day.
