No Warning Signals Down East
AUGUSTA ME.--The legislature has killed a proposal that would have required the posting of health-hazard warnings on liquor bottles sold in state liquor stores.
Reaction to the bill has ranged from "ridiculous" to a charge that passing such a measure would make Maine "the laughingstock of the nation."
The bill would have required every bottle of liquor in Maine to carry a warning label similar to those carried on cigarette packages. The warnings would have said, "Contents may be addicting or habit-forming and injurious to your health."
