There is a close relationship between nutritional deficiencies and the use of alcohol. Dr. Roger J. Williams, University of Texas biochemist, has noted that although alcoholics tend to have a poor diet (often through neglect), the reverse situation also applies: Bad diet creates alcoholics.

According to Dr. Williams, even moderate drinking can lead to a B-vitamin deficiency and leave the liver functioning below par.
