About Alcoholism - Alcoholism Information, Research and Treatment
More than half [of the 55,000 killed on U.S. highways each year] are victims of the habitual offender. A devastating example was disclosed through the files of the Indiana State Police Department. This driver was a 49-year-old, married male. In 11 years, he was arrested 25 times for traffic violations. His record included 10 arrests for drunk driving, 10 for driving under suspension, and five for speeding, reckless driving, running a red light, signal violation, and failure to display plates. He has held his license legally for only three months during the 11 years. He continues to drive.
