Edited by Peter G. Bourne, MD, and Ruth Fox, MD, it is an awesome book, broad in scope, weighty, noteworthy--possibly a milestone. Since vast ignorance of "the most dangerous of all drugs" still prevails, this newest report on research and treatment is truly important. Space does not permit even listing, let alone commenting on, the 17 chapters, each written by an authority on his or her particular aspect of the illness and its treatment.
