About Alcoholism - Alcoholism Information, Research and Treatment

Nature Discriminates

Alcohol will distribute into only part of the body. In the case of men, it appears that about 68 to 76% of the body is available for distribution of the alcohol. In the female, the distribution is somewhere around 55 to 66% of the body. Alcohol will only distribute into total body water. Fat and bone do not count for practical purposes. Since a normal woman has more fat than a man, this means that even if a man and a woman weigh the same, the alcohol/blood level in the woman will be higher for a given amount of alcohol consumed.
