Critics scoffed when Dr. Alan Marlatt, a psychologist at the University of Washington in Seattle, said he was opening a "free" bar on campus to study whether social drinkers could be taught to drink sensibly. But open the bar he did, in 1978.
Dr. Marlatt says he has documented [a] phenomenon among drinkers: "modeling."
