Dear Grapevine

Letters from Readers

Smart feet

I sobered up in Costa Rica and now I live in a small rather rural area a ferry ride from Vancouver. Our community is stretched out over 30 km, and although we have a strong AA community, our little womens’ meeting has a hard time getting members. Our friend Judy sat for months in the basement of the church, keeping it open. We started announcing it and said that we welcomed children, and finally a few others joined. Voila! Now we have regular members, we’re able to pay our rent, and we also have a GSR (that would be me). We have even arranged to share a coffeepot, coffee and sugar and cream with the other five groups using this particular church. We now have a core group of five to eight women who attend regularly.
