During my drinking days, if you asked me if I were an alcoholic, I would respond, "What's your point?" I knew what I was but it didn't matter because I was functioning on a high level. Or was I?
I was raised in a suburb of NYC in an Italian and Irish Catholic family in which my father ruled with an iron hand and a barber belt that hurt really bad. My mom was strong but she basically did what my father said.
