November 2012: Letter from the Editor

Every November, we alcoholics love to stop and ponder our gratitude for AA. In a 1954 Grapevine, our co-founder, Bill W., put it this way: “We not only feel grateful, we say so with the joy of prisoners set free.” In this issue, we feature classic, historic articles on gratitude from our Story Archive on If you haven’t explored our terrific complete collection of thousands of AA stories dating back to 1944, please check it out.

In “The Day I Made 100 Pancakes,” a woman wanders into an AA meeting where she’s never been and surprisingly finds herself happily feeding a roomful of hungry alcoholics. The delightful holiday story, “I Love New York,” is about fun sober travel and the joys of sponsorship. It even features an AA meeting with a disco ball! And Bill W. reminds us of our faith and freedom and of our wonderful opportunity to serve others in “Thanksgiving is Gratitude in Action.” The issue is also chock-full of terrific new stories, such as “Keep Dreaming,” “It’s a Wonderful Life,” and “Bobbleheads.”
