December 2012: Meeting in Montgomery

He went to the bus stop to right a wrong and left with a beautiful new friend

I’ve been sober for six years and find it difficult to adequately express my thanks and gratitude to our program. I worked the Steps vigorously during my early sobriety and waited until I was sober two years before I made amends to my wife. Three years went by before I made them to my youngest daughter. The miracles promised in the Big Book have all come true, and the God of my understanding continues to guide and direct my life.

I’d like to share a Tenth Step opportunity my Higher Power presented me with during a business trip to Montgomery, Ala., in March 2009. This was my first trip to Montgomery and during dinner with two colleagues on my last night in town, the conversation turned to what attractions Montgomery had to offer that I might see before leaving for Atlanta the next evening. The Rosa Parks Museum and historic bus stop were mentioned. It dawned on me that the previous summer in Detroit, I had the opportunity to visit the Henry Ford Museum and was on the Rosa Parks bus. I thought this would be a great way to close the loop with the connection to that bus. Little did I know that my Higher Power had a different experience in store for me.
