June 2013: My smart mouth

My mom always said I had a smart mouth, and it got even smarter and faster when I was submerged in alcoholic drinking. When attacked, I always used the counterattack ploy, because my best defense was a good offense: Get ‘em before they get me.

Doing a Fourth Step uncovered this behavior. I realized that since I was no longer drinking there was absolutely no need for me to keep that defense in my repertoire, but old habits die really hard. I remember arguing this point with a good friend in my home group who always said, “Good habits are just as easy to adopt as bad habits.” My...
