DEATHS FROM ALCOHOLISM IN FRANCE rose from 481 in 1946 to 4,523 in 1955. Deaths from cirrhosis of the liver rose from 2,763 in 1946 to 12,852 in 1955. In terms of rates per 100,000 population, the increases were from around 1 to 11 and from 6 to 32.
