A Veterans Administration psychiatrist has suggested that physicians who become alcoholics and drug addicts are motivated by a desire to destroy themselves. They have knowledge of all the "physical, neurological and cerebral complications" of both forms of addiction, according to Werner Simon, MD. Thus, it would appear, he said, that addiction is "deliberate self-destruction for them."
