'Posting' Drunks' Names Declared unconstitutional

WASHINGTON, D.C.--A 6-to-3 Supreme Court ruling declared unconstitutional a Wisconsin statute--and by implication similar laws in 15 other states--that authorized local officials to post the names of "excessive" drinkers and deny them the right to purchase alcoholic beverages.

The majority held that to pin "the unsavory label" of drunkenness on a person without a prior hearing was unconstitutional.
