Alcoholics as Counselors

Training for alcoholism and drug-abuse program counselors is underway at the Fort Lyon, Colo., Veterans Administration hospital. Originated by the hospital's chaplain, John T. Horber, coordinator of the program and a lecturer in alcoholism at the College of Pharmacy of the University of Arizona, the program takes former [sic] alcoholics and in six months of intensive training turns them into counselors to staff treatment units.

Of 26 graduates, two are employed at the hospital and 18 are working for state, local, and other government agencies, all as alcoholism counselors.
