2017 General Service Conference Highlights

On Sunday morning, April 23, 2017, the 67th General Service Conference of Alcoholics Anonymous kicked off a week of discussion, consideration and voting on topics raised throughout the Fellowship. AA’s week-long business meeting focused on carrying the message to the alcoholic who still suffers.

Consisting of 133 voting members, the Conference is comprised of 93 delegates from the eight service regions of the United States and Canada (who constitute 69.9% of the body and nearly half of whom are new each year), along with 25 members of the General Service Board of Trustees, the AA World Services and Grapevine Corporate Boards (who constitute 18.8% of the body), and 15 members of the AA staff of the General Service Office, Grapevine and La Viña (who constitute 11.3% of the body). The Conference has been meeting annually since 1950 to deliberate on matters affecting the Fellowship as a whole. As The AA Service Manual/Twelve Concepts for World Service explains in Concept Two, the Conference is “the actual voice and effective conscience for our whole Society.”
