Stationed far from home and with drinking all around her, a newcomer calls up her AA tools to stay sober another day

I started drinking when I was 14. I loved it. Alcohol helped me to feel like I could do anything. The rules didn’t apply to me when I was drunk. Back then I could only drink on the weekends and alcohol was difficult to obtain.
