One warm summer day in July, I was swimming in the lake at our summer home in Maine. From the edge of my vision I saw something fluttering on the surface of the water and swam over to investigate.

There on the water was a beautiful dragonfly frantically trying to rise from the water on wings that were wet down and too heavy to lift her. Dragonflies dip their tail in the water to deposit their eggs and this one had been knocked down by a wave and was unable to get airborne again.
