From NA to AA

She stepped into one room, but discovered she belonged in another

I hit bottom on February 9, 2015, at a Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meeting in Bellevue, Washington. I was early to my regular Sunday Al-Anon meeting, so I inexplicably poked my head into the NA meeting, which was well under way. I had a suspicion that I had become addicted to the prescription sedatives I was taking for anxiety. When I looked in, all I saw was a room full of “addicts” and so I backed away from the door. I was sure, in that moment, that I had nothing in common with them and that I didn’t belong in that room. Having ventured as far as I was comfortable into the land of addiction, I went to grab breakfast at the onsite café and wait for my Al-Anon meeting.
