Celebrating 23 years without a drink or a drug, I returned to the town in South Texas where I sobered up, to spend a week fishing with an early AA mentor. He had three years of sobriety when I showed up to my first meeting. The fishing trip turned out to be the most instrumental leap toward sobriety I have made in 23 years.
