A.A.'s Country-wide News Circuit
In Birmingham, Ala., the first regional A.A. convention ever held in the South went over the top with hundreds of members attending from Virginia, West Virginia, North and South Carolina, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama. The following day the A.A.s assisted at the first meeting of the Alabama Committee on Education with Respect to Alcoholism, created through an act of the last legislature. . . On their second anniversary the Flint Group was host to the second out-state A.A. get-together in Michigan. The Wolverines came from Jackson, Bay City, Mt. Morris, Traverse City, Royal Oak, Saginaw, Howell, Pontiac, Pleasant Ridge, Kalamazoo, Richland, McFarlan and Ortonville; Ohioans came from Canton, Dover and Lakewood. A surgeon from Ohio, with five university degrees to his credit, related his story with booze, which newsmen declared was as "poignant as a Somerset Maugham novel." . . . The three-year old St. Joseph, Mo., Group has bought a clubhouse at 522 South Twelfth Street, phone 4-3809.
