Coffee cups & door-knobs?
For 38 years in AA, I’ve heard members say that they use coffee cups or doorknobs as their Higher Power, and every time I cringe at the insinuation that an inanimate object is more powerful than I am. To paraphrase a beloved AA member who is now attending that big meeting in heaven: No inanimate object was ever more powerful than me in the worst of my drinking days. If I were a newcomer to AA, I might be hard-pressed to keep coming back. Whatever happened to the power of the group? At least this makes more sense... Login to read more
