A Talk With One Of AA'S Longest Long-timers
Chauncey C. got sober on December 30, 1941. In carrying the message, Chauncey frequently opened his home to wet drunks and even had new members live with him, said Ralph M., an AA Chauncey sponsored for about fifty years. "I can't even guess how many members he sponsored over the years," Ralph said. George M., an AAWS director who met Chauncey about five years ago, said, "He sponsored new people right to the end." Two months before his death on May 11, 2006, the Grapevine spoke with him. With sixty-four years of sobriety, Chauncey was recognized by many as the longest living active member of AA.
