Tradition Three in action

I've read several articles and letters in the Grapevine about people dually addicted to alcohol and drugs. To my knowledge, no one has mentioned a third addiction: food. I came into AA through the side window of Overeaters Anonymous, and I will be forever grateful to my first AA group for the love and tolerance I was shown during the first few weeks of meetings when I would identify myself as only a compulsive overeater, not an alcoholic.

As a matter of fact, when I received my white chip at my first meeting (for I did have the desire to stop drinking), the chairperson handed it to me and said, "This is to remind you that you cannot tolerate alcohol--or food, if you want to use it for that."
