PATRICK, a freelance commercial artist, was in a penitentiary for no reason but mishandling alcohol, his sixth visit under that state's legal admission that it had found no better way to handle chronic drunks. He had been exposed to Alcoholics Anonymous, had joined one of our groups but after a few months found himself drunk and disorderly again, or so the judge enlightened him.
