The Understudy

A sponsor's gift to a newcomer

I decided to stop drinking after I watched everything I cared about in this world walk out the front door. I still had a job, but that did not matter. I still had a vehicle that ran well, but that did not matter. I knew that the monthly household income was being cut in half, but that was not important either. The only things of any importance to me at that moment were the three people I just watched walk out the front door. Naturally, like any good alcoholic, I decided to stop drinking just long enough to get those things back. To show my sincerity, I started attending meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous.
