Tradition Three: The only requirement for AA membership is a desire to stop drinking.

The Third Tradition has been made so complicated. Simply stated, if you haven't had a problem with alcohol (and you are the only one who really knows that), then you cannot become a member of AA. But you certainly can come to open meetings, and if you do choose to participate, we would ask only that you confine your discussion to your problems with alcohol.
