The fun of drinking never resurfaced

At the age of twenty-one, when it was finally legal for me to drink in the United States, the last place I ever wanted to end up in was Alcoholics Anonymous, and the last thing I ever wanted to do at 7:30 in the morning was sit in an AA meeting with my mother, listing to a bunch of old geezers talk about how great sobriety is. Nevertheless, there I was at 7:30 A.M. at my mother's home group, muttering that awful sentence: "My name is Adam, and I am an alcoholic."
