About Alcoholism - Alcoholism Information, Research and Treatment
New Civil Service Rules
WASHINGTON, D.C.--Alcoholism among Federal employees will be treated like any other illness under guidelines issued by the Civil Service Commission.
Sick leave will be granted for treatment or rehabilitation under the new rules. Personnel folders will not mention alcoholic problems unless the employee is disciplined for failing to improve work performance.
In addition, the commission said, "The employing agency is not concerned with an employee's use of alcohol except as it may affect his job performance or the efficiency of the service."
