About Alcoholism - Alcoholism Information, Research and Treatment
The proportion of adults who drink alcoholic beverages is at its highest point in 35 years, the Gallup Poll reports.
The organization reports that 68% of those surveyed said that they sometimes used alcoholic beverages, with the proportion increasing with level of income. Of persons earning $20,000 and over, 88% drink such beverages, the poll found.
The survey shows that nearly one-fourth of the drinkers, or one-fifth of the total sample, said they sometimes drank to excess and 12% said liquor had been a cause of trouble in the family.
