Voyage of Discovery

The road of experience takes many turnings

I have made a discovery--I do not understand alcoholism. There have been other diseases which baffled me. The difference with alcoholism is that I went for years believing that I understood it. In my thinking, only psychological and social factors were involved. Alcoholics were persons with severe personality problems. They generally functioned at low performance levels, and their motivation for treatment was to be viewed with suspicion. Their spouses colluded with them to maintain their dysfunction.
