Mail Call for A.A.s at Home and Abroad

OUR Program is predominantly one of action. Achievement is directly proportionate to action taken. The ramifications of our courses of action are many, but fundamental indeed for all of us, is selective thinking about our common problem. At all meetings we ponder over our own situation, as we listen to others reflect upon theirs. The results, we feel, are beneficial. Man is so constituted, and for the most part, fortunately so, that he can recall pleasure with greater facility than he can recall pain. So as we look back over the panorama of many enigmatic months or years, our recollections may hardly be true pictures of the trials through which, by the grace of God, we have successfully passed. At this point, because of our peculiar propensities, we are thinking only of the thrill of the first. We see nothing of the harrowing hell of the fiftieth. For us then, there is but one sure course: to stiffen the sinews of memory, to conjure up by sheer might the whole picture, the ruin, the lost hope, the utter despondency, the bleak despair. Keep always this whole picture in your mind's eye. Live ever with the true and complete vision of days past. It is only through the recollection of all that has gone that you can attain to that state of receptivity in which The Power Greater than yourself can lead you into a sober and happy future.
