Mail Call for A.A.s at Home and Abroad

I BELIEVE the A.A. Program will work for anyone who will put forth a sincere effort to make it work--there are no half measures in A.A.--it is whole hog or none. My first year in A.A. had some rough spots in it. There were times when I thought a drink was the most desirable thing. I did not take that drink because I knew what it would do to me. It would have spoiled everything I have learned to love. One of the finest things I have found in A.A. is the friendship. Friendship such as has been given to me in A.A. is a rare and beautiful thing. It was freely given at a time when I had all but forgotten the meaning of the word--given at a time when I needed it most. It is my most valuable possession and it will always be an incentive to me to try to help others as I have been helped. The word "friend" has a deep and sincere meaning for me. It is a trust that I cannot afford to sacrifice. I was almost 64 years old when I found A.A., however it is a source of great satisfaction to me to know that it will be through my own freedom to choose this way of life and live decently or go back to the old way and oblivion--and so my friends, I sincerely thank you.
