The Periods of Sobriety Were Short

I CAME into this Program after 13 years of drinking, during which I had tried many times to overcome my drinking habit by prayer and trying to maintain a conscious contact with God. I had short periods of sobriety followed by worse periods of drunkenness. I was getting progressively worse and if given opportunity I had no control over alcohol whatever. I knew that A.A. was the last resort and if it didn't help me nothing could. So I started attending meetings and as the whole Program sounded reasonable, I began to feel that this was what I had been looking for. But I had been in only about five weeks when I had a slip. Another three weeks--another slip. There was something radically wrong with me.
