Mail Call for A.A.s at Home and Abroad

ONE thing came to my attention when I first started attending meetings--that most speakers try to impress upon the listeners just how bad they were. I think it well to impress people with how hopeless we were. But I know that I heard so many people talk about jails, bad checks, being bums and even stealing and murdering in a couple of cases, that I wondered if I were, as yet, low enough to affiliate. I wanted like everything to stop drinking but I didn't want to lower my social status any more than I already had. I was glad to find out that the average alcoholic is of good character, once you sober him up. Actually most of them are entirely honest until they go off the beam.
