DOES she no longer feel that she is an important player in the scene? As the wife of a drunkard, she held the center of the stage. She was the rock on which were anchored the faltering fortunes of an alcoholic's family. Perhaps in the years of her husband's drinking career if asked the one thing most desirable to her, she would have replied, "That my husband stop drinking." But here again, is anticipation better, by far, than realization?
