There Are Worse Things

IT seems, so the story goes, that an alcoholic (not necessarily a member of AA, obviously) had had a very bad slip. When he came to in the town where he found himself, he called loudly for a doctor. And when the doc arrived post haste, our friend explained in considerable detail that alcoholism is a disease, that he was an alcoholic, that he had had a very serious slip, that he was in terrible shape and that he heeded help and medication and particularly sedatives--but quick.
