Mail Call

THE drinking career of almost every alcoholic was marked by escapades--funny, humiliating, shameful, or tragic. Don't bury these skeletons in the closet as far as our alcoholic mates are concerned, as a frank discussion of the past may be of help to them. We must not talk about these past escapades to anyone--our alcoholics will tell about them and laugh at many of the things they did during their drinking careers. Cheerfulness, laughter and a sense of humor make for usefulness. Outsiders, or non-alcoholics, are sometimes shocked when an alcoholic bursts into laughter over a tragic experience of the past--but we can join in the laughter because we know that they have recovered from a very serious illness, and have been given the power to help others.
